ONE ROOM CHALLENGE (Week One): Annex Guest Room Makeover

Image
Twice a year, in October and April, Linda from Calling It Home  and House Beautiful hosts a One Room Challenge. Over the course of 6 weeks, 20 select designers and bloggers tackle renovating or redecorating a specific room, and share their  progress with weekly blog posts.  When the April 2017 list of selected designers was announces, I was so inspired by how many of the participants are blogs and designers I admire. I knew I wanted to participate too! The One Room Challenge encourages Guest Participants, so I'm joining the fun, sharing the magic of an Annex Guest Room makeover we have yet to tackle. What's even more exciting, is this is a linked event, which means that all the Guest Participants will share a common link and you'll be able to easily surf through a ton of room transformations. You'll find that link at the bottom of this post!

2016 Holiday House Tour of Content.

Image
As some of you may remember, last year's Christmas decor-spectacular was brought to you by the lovely Monica Mangin of East Coast Creative and Lowe's. We were the recipients of a Holiday Makeover, and Monica and her team came to Content. in October (just days after Halloween) and decked our halls with a ton of Christmas cheer. You can check out Monica's recap of the Makeover here .

DIY: How to Create Poured Concrete Vanity Tops and Shower Curbs

Image
During the initial design stages of the guest bathrooms, we decided to use our master bathroom as an inspiration. We continue to be pleased with the master bathroom renovation, and knew that repeating the vanity and countertop design would bring continuity throughout the house. However, we were looking to scale the cost of the vanity down a bit, and instead of using bluestone as the vanity top again, decided to use poured concrete.

LIFE AT CONTENT: Halloween 2016

Image
Halloween is one of those commercial holidays that you either love or hate. I happen to love Halloween! It's silly and innocent, and makes people smile. It's also a great excuse to eat copious amounts of mini candy bars that don't make you feel as guilty as eating a full sized bar. Win! This year, I decided to re purpose my Halloween decor, and not buy anything new. Don't get me wrong, with almost 10 years of Halloween party hosting on my resume, I had plenty to work with.

RENOVATION REVEAL: Content Master Bathroom

Image
Taking a look back, and realize I never gave you a full look at the before and after of our Master Bathroom. So, here is the entire run down including all the before and after shots, which I know you all enjoy so much! And, UPDATE: You can now see this before + after featured on Apartment Therapy!

RENOVATION REVEAL: Guest Room #2 Bathroom

Image
Renovating any room of the house can be pretty annoying. Dust, construction debris, hazardous equipment. But the renovation of a bathroom quite literally messes with basic human needs, and that my friends is no fun... John's sister Kristen is currently undergoing a bathroom renovation which has me excited to see her (my FIL Dave's) progress but nervous how even a minor setback could effect her. Knowing my father-in-law though, I'm certain they're right on schedule. Unlike Content. renovations that seem to have a mind of their own. Nonetheless, the ensuite bathroom of guest room #2 is finished!

DIY: Industrial Curtain Rods

Image
Happy Spring everyone! I want to share a fun, DIY project that we did for the master bedroom; our industrial inspired curtain rods. I've seen a few different versions on Pinterest, but wanted to put our own spin on this trend. Not only can you tackle this project in one-day, you can do it without breaking the bank! DIY Industrial Curtain Rods Time: 1.5 hours of prep, 30 minutes for install Cost: $30 per curtain rod, with (2) mounts Skill Level: Basic tools, comfortable on a ladder The need for this project became pretty apparent when I started shopping for a curtain rod that would span our four, street facing windows. Holy hat! Extra long curtain rods are expensive! And since we moved in this past weekend (YAHH!), we had to figure out a quick solution. I reasoned with spending a little more on the curtains themselves because they had to be lined (not too sheer or see through) and 84" long, but I couldn't wrap my head around spending hundreds on hardware....

Old Is the New Black.

Image
What once was old, will eventually be new again. At least, that's what they say... I mean, right now take a look at the mid-century modern furniture trend. I happen to love this trend with its simplicity, clean lines and organic forms but let's flash back to the actual mid century which I can relate to in the form of Nickatnite reruns. I cannot say as a child I would have watched my favorite episodes of Bewitched and though, "Now there is some amazing interior design I can see my future husband and I living with." At 10 years old, I was certainly more impressed with Samantha's nose twitching/spell inducing powers, not her living room credenza. But now, looking at some set photos from Bewitched , I'm seriously jealous of Samantha and Darrin Steven's fictitious home décor. And don't even get me started on the mid-cen-mod wet dream that is Mad Men . That's a can of worms for another post. The point is, John + I are big proponents of ...
